Our Mission
Improving patient comfort by managing surgical drains with the Recovery Belt.
Managing Discomfort
During breast cancer surgeries, and many others, you will likely wake up with one or more drains originating near your surgical site(s). Depending on the extent of the surgery you could have a tangle of drain tubes and collection bulbs. During my bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstruction, I had six different drains attached for two weeks. Maintaining control over the drains is essential to avoid unneccesary pain and possibly more surgery.
Post surgery, my drain tubes were dangling everywhere I looked. Their bulbs were pinned to my gown, each with their bloody bounty.
Adjusting my position on the bed was almost impossible due to the drain bulbs laying all around my body.
When the time came to use the bathroom, I had to juggle these bulbs while trying to avoid letting them tug against
their surgical site.
Later, at home, I became more mobile. I couldn't bear the thought of catching a drain
tube on a door handle when every tiny movement in the tube caused pain.
Taking a shower with six bulbs pinned to my underwear was the last straw.
I had to find a way to make these surgical drains bearable!
Recovery Belt is the solution for all these drains!
As a breast cancer survivor (My Story) , I originally developed the Recovery Belt to make my life easier. The belt is designed to hold multiple drain bulbs by using the drain's attachment loop. The belt has a quick release clasp and fits waist sizes up to 44 inches ... snap two together for fuller figures. Detailed information and an image gallery are available here.
